Clowes and a closet-case

Photobucket

So recently I just finished Caricature by Daniel Clowes. If you aren't familiar with his work, he has really done some great stuff. You find few comic book artists who maintain ingenuity while still being sardonic and totally fucking wry. One of the stories (there are nine total within this particular piece) is called Blue Italian Shit and is basically the story of my life. It's about this kid who enters into the punk scene (although most SHOULD know that it was actually the new wave scene and the term punk was utilized for media propaganda etc.) after 87, when it was coming to a gnarling halt. Anyway, this kid is fucking great- he stalks the streets of New York in a leather jacket in 90 degree weather, chain smoking marlboro reds, and thinking about how the passe and cliche are a source of entertainment for those void of morals. Perhaps I'm reading into his character and he really is just a lowbrow punk who has a slight interest in Nazi paraphernalia...
if you have not read it, you should.

Onto other news, I think it's pretty fucking entertaining that I have subscribed to an outlet as modern as blogging. However, I have learned about some pretty fucking cool shit via web, so perhaps (with small dosages of time and effort) I too can impart some wisdom onto those who are interested in outlets that don't focus on the mundane... or at the very least commercialism.
LONG LIVE THE COMMIES! (sarcasm is rarely detected over the internet, so insert appropriate facial expression here)
I have been listening to Charlie and the Moonhearts lately, but have yet to find their 45 anywhere. Apart from that I scored some unheard of Ty Segall 7'' from Amoeba last weekend.

They are as follows:
Side A: Universal Momma- excellent track
Side B: 86' D

Trouble in Mind: (recorded in Chicago)
Side A: My Sunshine
Side B: Fuzzy Cat

This one's a fucking beaut. It's a split 7 where thee oh sees and Segall unite to do a rendition of each others work. There interpretations are really great, Segalls whiny acoustics add a new layer of depth to the already great oh sees track. the drag (in my humble opinion) is a perfect song... but it was well done. I would also like to add WITH my nose in the air, this 45 is blue. Perry-winkle blue. Heaven.
Side A: rendition of Thee oh Sees Maria Stacks
Side B: rendition of Ty Segalls The Drag
