Why: Turn The Lights Out, released on Matador Records, is one of the best indie garage albums to date. Recorded in Brooklyn’s Headgear Studios and Electrical Studios The Ponys sound is uncanny. With the guidance of John Agnello who has worked with The Breeders, Patti Smith, Murder City Devils, Bob Dylan, and The Kills (to name a few), he aids this band of players in making the rules in order to break them. It is a rare and memorable occasion when one can pick up an album and find the music un-forced, the first time you hear The Ponys you will find this experience in process. While the band has developed a loyal following since the release of their freshman 33, many are still ignorant to their name and therefore talent. They rise through the mold to take a seat beside other remarkable artists, such as Liars and legends like Sonic Youth. I have had "Double Vision", "Everyday Weapon", "Small Talk", “Harakiri”, and "Pickpocket Song" on repeat since I hit play; this album should come with a caution sticker.
